Mark and Julie Charvat Create a Family Trust to Assist Future Lancers with Financial Need

Mark ’72 and Julie Charvat P’95, ’97 and family

Mark ’72 and Julie Charvat P’95, ’97 understand the value of a La Salle College Preparatory education, which is why they have established the Charvat Family Endowed Scholarship to aid students with financial need.

Growing up in Pasadena, Mark chose to attend La Salle to play basketball, where he excelled, earning a place in the Athletic Hall of Fame. Looking back, he is grateful for the leadership and teamwork skills he gained at La Salle, especially through athletics—qualities that served him well in his entrepreneurial business career of more than 40 years, including starting and operating their family business, The Outlet by ELS, for more than 30 years.

Members of both the Richard Gray and Saint Benilde Societies, Mark and Julie have designated their planned gift to provide funds to support one of La Salle’s hallmark initiatives—the San Miguel Scholarship program.

Married for 47 years with two La Salle alumni sons, Brian ’95 and Jason ’97, daughter-in-law, Krista ’96, and grandson Tyler ’26, Mark and Julie are strong believers in “paying it forward” and see a planned gift to La Salle as a perfect vehicle for helping future generations thrive and prosper while carrying on the La Salle tradition. Mark encourages fellow alumni to consider joining him in making a planned gift to share the benefits they enjoyed with tomorrow’s Lancers.

“Please look at what La Salle taught you,” Mark says. “Ask yourself if it had value in your life. If not, okay. If yes, think about paying it forward.”
